Charles Barkley en lío por apuestas

LAS VEGAS (AP) - Charles Barkley podría ser sindicado penalmente en el caso que no cancele una deuda de 400.000 dólares a un casino de Las Vegas, dijo el jueves un fiscal.

"Estamos en el proceso de enviarle una notificación al señor Barkley de que consideramos presentar una querella", declaró David Roger, fiscal del condado Clark. "Tendrá una oportunidad como cualquiera persona de indemnizar al hotel".

El casino Wynn Las Vegas aseguró en una querella civil radicada el miércoles ante un tribunal del estado de Nevada que el retirado astro de la NBA no canceló cuatro pagos de 100.000 dólares, o préstamos, que recibió el 18 y 19 de octubre pasados.

Barkley actualmente se desempeña como analista de básquetbol en la cadena Turner Network Television (TNT). Nunca ha ocultado su afición por las apuestas.

El agente de Barkley en Nueva York no respondió de inmediato a pedidos de reacción, mientras que una portavoz de TNT en Atlanta declinó formular comentarios.

Barkley, de 45 años, jugó 16 temporadas en la NBA con Filadelfia, Phoenix y Houston. Fue el Jugador Más Valioso de la liga en 1993.

En una entrevista con ESPN en mayo de 2006, Barkley estimó que podría haberse gastado casi 10 millones de dólares durante varios años.
