El fin para De La Hoya comienza hoy

Los Angeles, CA, 30 abril 2008 (AOL Latino, enviado especial) - Las estrellas brillan hasta de día en la Ciudad de los Ángeles. Y en el deporte del boxeo, pocas estrellas han brillado tan intensamente como Oscar De La Hoya. El Olímpico, el 'Chico de Oro' que busca cerrar su ilustre carrera este año con una trilogía de combates.

Primero en la lista: Steve Forbes. Un boxeador que está ante la oportunidad de su vida. Por eso De La Hoya entiende que no será una mera pelea de preparación.

"Todos mis rivales elevan su nivel cuando se enfrentan a mí. Saben que si ganan les dará la oportunidad de tener mejores bolsas", dijo en un junte con múltiples medios estadounidenses e internacionales.

Por eso De La Hoya se ha preparado fuerte para esta pelea. Comenzó su entrenamiento en enero en Puerto Rico junto a Floyd Mayweather Sr. Así ha llegado estar nuevamente en las 147 libras, algo que pensaba no lograría hacer.

"Así que yo también tengo mucha hambre", bromeó en la conferencia de prensa.

De La Hoya dijo que esa diferencia de libras lo remonta al "viejo Oscar". Afirmó que le permite mantenerse en movimiento, lanzando combinaciones con buena fuerza y velocidad. "Es un regreso a mis raíces", aseguró.

¿Viene Tito?

En torno a una posible revancha contra Félix 'Tito' Trinidad, De La Hoya admitió que sería muy difícil.

De La Hoya dice estar listo para el retiro.

"En mi corazón entiendo que gané", dijo el californiano. Pero también indicó que ya no le molesta ni piensa en esa derrota.

Además, "[Trinidad] está en las 170 libras", y De La Hoya parece contento quedarse rondando las 150 libras.

A la misma vez, y como buen promotor, dejó el tema abierto a discusión. De La Hoya admitió que si Mayweather Sr. le pone un plan de entrenamiento adecuado, él lo seguirá para subir al ring contra cualquiera.

Durante la tarde, se anunció que se pondría una estatua de De La Hoya el Staples Center de Los Angeles, al lado de otros grandes del deporte como Magic Johnson y Wayne Gretzky.

Así que es un regreso a casa para De La Hoya. Busca cerrar el círculo, y el primer paso se dará donde todo empezó para él.

Y es que, según dijo, el 2008 definitivamente será su último año.

"Ya estoy preparado para el retiro. Nada me va a convencer para regresar. Por eso quiero salir como un ganador".
