Manu será abanderado de Argentina

BUENOS AIRES (AP) - Aunque está en duda por lesión, y pese a las posibles objeciones que podría tener su equipo, los Spurs de San Antonio, Manu Ginóbili fue elegido abanderado de la delegación argentina para la ceremonia inaugural de los Juegos Olímpicos de Beijing el ocho de agosto próximo, se informó el martes.

El mejor basquetbolista argentino de todos los tiempos fue escogido durante una votación en la noche del lunes entre 15 jefes de equipo, dijo la oficina de prensa del Comité Olímpico Argentino (COA).

"Manu" Ginóbili sumó ocho votos, el remero Santiago Fernández tres, el ciclista Juan Curuchet dos, la jugadora de hóckey sobre césped Luciana Aymar y el tenista David Nalbandian uno cada uno y se registraron cuatro abstenciones, según el COA.

De todos modos, la presencia de Ginóbili en Beijing está en duda debido a que se lesionó el tobillo izquierdo al comienzo de los playoffs en la NBA, jugando para los Spurs de San Antonio. Ese problema lo afectó en la final de la Conferencia del Oeste, en la que su equipo cayó ante los Lakers de Los Angeles.

Enterado de fue elegido abanderado, Ginóbili dijo al diario Clarín del martes que esa distinción "es un honor muy grande" pero no confirmó si irá a Beijing.

"Hay que esperar unos días para conocer una respuesta", dijo Ginóbili, integrante del equipo de básquetbol que ganó la medalla de oro en Atenas 2004 y que en Beijing intentará volver a subirse a lo más alto del podio.
