Medias Rojas boicotean juegos en Japón

(AOL Latino) - En un hecho sin precedente, los Medias Rojas de Boston amenazan con boicotear un viaje que harían a Japón para comenzar la temporada, a menos que se les pague a sus entrenadores por viajar.

Informes televisivos de la cadena ESPN indican que miembros del equipo han decidido no abordar el avión hoy miércoles que los llevaría a unos juegos de pretemporada en California. De ahí se supone que viajarían hasta Japón para comenzar la temporada regular con dos juegos ante los Atléticos de Oakland el 25 y 26 de marzo.

En estos momentos los Medias Rojas rehúsan salir al terreno de juego en Fort Myers, Florida, donde debían disputar un juego de exhibición contra los Azulejos de Toronto.

Aparentemente los jugadores y su mánager, Terry Francona, se molestaron al enterarse que sus entrenadores no recibirían el mismo estipendio de $40,000 que ellos por hacer el viaje.

El lanzador Curt Schilling afirmó a una reportera de ESPN que existía un acuerdo para que los entrenadores recibieran ese dinero, pero que de la noche a la mañana, la gerencia incumplió.

El boricua Mike Lowell fue más directo al decir en entrevista con el diario Boston Globe que "nos prometieron la luna y las estrellas, y entonces cuando nos comprometimos [con ir a Japón], ellos comenzaron a echarse hacia atrás".
