¿Qué pasó con el nocaut, Oscar?

Carson, CA, 3 mayo 2008 (AOL Latino, enviado especial) - Toda la semana, Oscar De La Hoya y su Golden Boy Promotions se esforzaron por presentar su combate contra Stevie Forbes como un evento imperdible.

Primero, porque se trataba de una de las últimas tres peleas que piensa hacer el 'Chico de Oro' este año. Su objetivo ha sido claro y reiterado: terminar su carrera como campeón.

Segundo, fue el regreso a casa para De La Hoya. Se realizaron actividades musicales, el pesaje oficial fue un evento público, había entradas disponibles desde $25 en el Home Depot Center de Carson, California. Todo con el propósito, cuan calculado como efectivo, de agradecer el respaldo de su fanaticada, particularmente los latinos del oeste de los Estados Unidos.

Tercero, fue la primera vez que De La Hoya peleaba fuera del sistema Pay-Per-View desde el 2001. Como Bernard Hopkins dijo jocosamente en la conferencia de prensa del 30 de abril, lo único que tenías que hacer era asegurar que habías pagado tu factura de cable TV.

Por último, era la primera vez que la grama de la casa de David Beckham y las Chivas USA se alfombraba para fijar un cuadrilátero de boxeo.

Todo esto enmarcó el regreso al ring de Oscar De La Hoya, en un combate no titular en el peso mediano junior. Y lo más sobresaliente del resultado fue que el contendiente, Stevie Forbes, rehusó actuar dentro del 'guión' esperado.

Desde el campanazo inicial, se vio a un Steve Forbes sin miedo contra De La Hoya. Oscar comenzó con dos zurdas a la cabeza de Forbes. Forbes devolvió el ataque con combinaciones al cuerpo de Oscar.

Y así fue el combate. Para ser generoso, Forbes hizo lo suficiente como para hacer que el tercer asalto terminara empate, en nuestra estimación.

Fue en ese asalto que se podía palpar que había muchas personas sorprendidas entre las 27 mil del lleno total del Home Depot Center. Forbes parecía ganar más confianza en cada asalto. Forbes comprobó darle una pelea difícil a Oscar, aunque en ningún momento nos pareció que llegó a complicar o herir al ex campeón. Pero sí dio fe de que es un contrincante fuerte.

La diferencia en estatura entre ambos púgiles no pareció haber sido un factor en la pelea. De La Hoya trataba de presionar la acción, le pegaba a Forbes pero éste actuaba como si no sintiera el efecto de los golpes.

Desde el séptimo asalto se vio a Oscar tratar de terminar el asunto, pero Forbes tenía otros planes.

"Estoy un poquito decepcionado que no pude dar el nocaut", dijo De La Hoya al finalizar el combate. "Pero [Forbes] nunca ha sido tumbado, y hoy comprobó por qué".

En términos promocionales, sin embargo, la reyerta pareció haber sido todo un éxito. "Fue excelente poder combatir en Los Angeles, frente a la gente de mi ciudad", dijo el Golden Boy.

Por otra parte, dejó entrever que esto sí fue parte de su preparación para su esperada revancha contra Floyd Mayweather Jr. De La Hoya lució un tanto más rápido y agresivo, lo cual confirmó es el plan para tratar de ganarle al invicto Mayweather.

"Esta es la estrategia que usaré contra Mayweather, y ahora estoy listo para dos peleas más", dijo De La Hoya.

Así las cosas, De La Hoya fue ganador sin controversia por amplia decisión unánime. Conectó 126 de 404 "power punches" para un 31%, mientras que Forbes logró 83 de 306 para un 27%. Los jueces la vieron 119-109, 119-109 y 120-108, todas en favor del ganador, Oscar De La Hoya.

AOL Latino la vio 120-109 por Oscar, con el tercer asalto empate. Ganó Oscar... pero sin el nocaut prometido.

esto es puro espectaculo para buscar billete el resultado estaba pactado de antemano fue puro teatro con buena cantidad de dolares a costa de los bobos que se dejan engañar el golden boy es un fiera para los negocios es hora de denunciar a estos estafadores.

Muchos se equivocan Oscar de la hoya no peleo con ningun novato ya que forbes hasta ayer fue el campeon de peso Medio de la IBF. Oscar llego como retador del negrito y oscar le quito su campeonato. Oscar era superwelter ahora ya con este fajin es titular del peso medio.
