Pettitte no quiere pensar en Clemens

TAMPA, Florida, EE.UU. (AP) - El pitcher de los Yanquis Andy Pettitte dijo que quiere concentrarse en el béisbol e ignorar la investigación sobre si Roger Clemens le habría mentido al Congreso.

Pettitte reconoció el jueves que la apertura de una posible investigación podría significar que deberá rendir otro interrogatorio ante las autoridades federales.

"Estoy preparado porque es algo que se puede dar", dijo Pettitte previo a un entrenamiento en el Legends Field. "No hay nada que yo pueda hacer. Hasta que alguien me diga algo, no puedo hacer nada".

Pettitte está en medio del fuego cruzado del conflicto entre su ex compañero Clemens y Brian McNamee, el ex preparador físico de los dos lanzadores. Pettitte le dijo a abogados de una comisión de la Cámara de Representantes que Clemens le intimó que hace una década consumió la hormona de crecimiento humano.

El miércoles, la Comisión de Supervisión y Reforma Gubernamental le envió una carta al secretario de Justicia Michael Mukasey, solicitando que Clemens sea investigado por perjurio o si a sabiendas hizo declaraciones falsas en la investigación sobre consumo de sustancias para mejorar el rendimiento.

La deposición de Pettitte, entre otros testimonios, fue citada en la misiva a Mukasey. Pettitte dijo sentirse incomodo por la situación.

"Lo hace todo más difícil", señaló. "No me gusta nada lo que está pasando. No lo aguanto. Yo ya les dije lo que pienso de él. Es una situación detestable. Es como si alguien de mi familia tenga que pasar por esto. Es una mala situación".

Clemens ha negado el uso de drogas, y afirmó Pettitte entendió mal la conversación.
