'Torito' Díaz se 'casa' con Golden Boy

Los Angeles, 25 Mar (Notimex) - El estadounidense de origen mexicano, Juan "Torito" Díaz, ex monarca mundial, firmó contrato con la empresa Golden Boy Promotions (GBP), informó este martes Ramiro González, director de relaciones públicas de la promotora.

"Estoy emocionado de poder estar en la lista de Golden Boy Promotions y no puedo esperar para estar de regreso en el ring con Oscar (De la Hoya) y su equipo detrás de mí", dijo Juan Díaz, de 24 años de edad.

"He obtenido mucha experiencia sobre los últimos dos años dentro y fuera del cuadrilátero, y quiero enseñarle a los aficionados que soy el mejor peso ligero del mundo", agregó el peleador originario de Houston, Texas.

A su vez, Oscar de la Hoya manifestó: "No creo que exista un peleador más joven y emocionante como Juan Díaz, y aunque nos tomó un buen rato, me siento contento que finalmente estemos trabajando juntos. Tenemos grandes planes para Juan y no podemos esperar más para programar las megas peleas que se merece".

"Golden Boy Promotions es el patrón de `Oro" cuando de promociones de boxeo se trata, y me siento muy confiado que éste es el único equipo que puede llevar a Juan (Díaz) hacia donde él necesita entrar en este deporte", dijo Willie Savannah, mánager de Díaz.

Aunque apenas tiene 24 años de edad, Juan Díaz (33-1, 17 nocauts) es un peleador experimentado con 34 contiendas realizadas de las que ha ganado 33 combates desde que se convirtió en profesional en el 2000.

El ex campeón mundial tuvo un impacto de inmediato en el mundo del boxeo por la carga implacable que imponía y porque siempre era un entretenimiento sus peleas. En el 2004 capturó el cinto ligero de la Asociación Mundial de Boxeo (AMB) por medio de un triunfo por decisión unánime sobre el mongol Lakva Sim.

Tras cinco defensas, y seis meses después de su victoria por nocaut en el octavo asalto sobre el brasileño Acelino "Popo" Freitas en abril de 2007 capturó el cinto ligero de la Organización Mundial de Boxeo (OMB).

El "Torito" Díaz detuvo a Julio "The Kid" Díaz en nueve giros para obtener el cetro ligero de la Federación Internacional de Boxeo (FIB), aunque cayó en una cerrada decisión dividida ante el estadounidense Nate Campbell el pasado 8 de marzo.

El debut de Díaz bajo la bandera de Golden Boy Promotions se anunciará posteriormente.
