HOLLYWOOD, Florida 30 mayo 2009 (AOL Latino, enviados especiales).- Andre Berto (25-0, 19 nocauts) logró en la misma noche mantener su invicto, asegurar su puesto como una de las estrellas de mayor proyección dentro del peso welter y defender con éxito por tercera vez su corona de las 147 libras del Consejo Mundial de Boxeo (CMB).

El campeón welter del Consejo Mundial de Boxeo, Andre Berto, venció por decisión unánime al campeón junior welter Juan Urango el 30 de mayo en el Hotel Seminole Hard Rock de Hollywood, Florida.

Choque de campeones
El campeón junior welter colombiano Juan Urango marcó 146.5 libras para su combate contra el monarca welter del Consejo Mundial de Boxeo, Andre Berto, quien llegó en 145.75 libras, el 29 de mayo. Batallarán el 30 de mayo en el Hotel Seminole Hard Rock de Hollywood, Florida.

Berto derrotó al colombiano Juan Urango (21-2, 16 nocauts) en el Hard Rock Live del Seminole Hard Rock Hotel & Casino de Hollywood, Florida, en una arena con capacidad para 5 mil 500 aficionados llena en un 75 por ciento. El muchacho de 24 años nacido en el sur de Florida, de madre haitiana y residente de Winter Haven, se llevó la decisión unánime 117-111 en una tarjeta y 118-110 en las otras dos.

"Creo que sí estoy listo para enfrentarme a los más grandes", dijo Berto tras concluir el combate. "Pienso que he mostrado mucho corazón en mis últimas dos peleas y definitivamente vienen más cosas de mí. Siempre habrá más".

Urango fue un buen rival para Berto en su escalera hacia la elite boxística y se paró bien sobre el ring, atinó buenos golpes, pero Berto fue mucho más. La velocidad de sus combinaciones casi siempre iniciadas con su jab fueron imponentes. También destacó su potente gancho de derecha que llegó a sacar de equilibrio a Urango en par de ocasiones.

Urango tuvo sus momentos, como en el cuarto round, su mejor en la pelea, cuando decidió enfrascarse en un toma y dame tremendo con el ganador, quien hábilmente escapó con movimiento de piernas. Las habilidades defensivas de Berto también fueron importantes, sabiendo amarrar cuando de verdad fue necesario y neutralizando a Urango con cambios de ritmo.

Berto sabe analizar al rival y luego medir para atinar sus golpes. Es un peleador que desperdicia poco y el resultado quedó plasmado en los números finales de CompuBox que lo vieron soltar menos golpes (655) que Urango (742) pero atinar más (243) que el perdedor (180).

En los golpes de poder (todo menos jabs) la diferencia fue menor con Berto conectando 174 de 262 y Urango 171 de 525.

Fue el tercer triunfo de Berto tras conseguir la corona del CMB en 2008 ante Miguel Ángel Rodríguez, para luego derrotar por decisión unánime a Steve Forbes, Luis Collazo y Urango.

"Pienso que estuve bien, funcionó la preparación y el guanteo", dijo el campeón. "Nos mantuvimos dentro del plan de juego y todo salió bien. Quiero darle gracias a Dios por el triunfo".
