ATLANTIC CITY, 27 junio 2009 (AOL Latino).- El puertorriqueño Juan Manuel López (26-0, 24 nocauts) sorteó una serie de dificultades ante un muy complicado Olivier Lontchi (18-1-2, 6 nocauts), para retener su faja súper gallo (122 libras) de la Organización Mundial de Boxeo, luego de que Lontchi no atendiera el llamado de la campana en el décimo round.

La pelea fue más enredada que activa principalmente por el estilo complicado de Lontchi, quien constantemente amarró y contuvo para atenuar los ataques del boricua López.

En el segundo asalto 'Juanma' lograría apuntarse el primer knockdown de la pelea cuando un gancho corto suyo atino al rostro del canadiense. Lontchi logró reponerse y sobrevivió el round pese a ataques incisivos por parte del campeón.

El resto de los rounds tendrían casi todos la misma tónica. López buscando una apertura para soltar sus ráfagas mientras que Lontchi amarraba y escapaba cuando 'Juanma' lo encerraba contra las cuerdas o en alguna esquina. La defensa de Lontchi fue lo suficientemente efectiva como para aguantar nueve rounds, pero no se combinó con ningún ataque prominente.

Lontchi solamente tuvo un round resaltante, el quinto, en el cual se dedicó a atacar y sacó la mejor parte. Sin embargo, sería apenas el único episodio del combate en el cual se le vio intentar ofender. De resto procuró trancar a López con amarres constantes que llegaron a provocar a ratos una pelea aburrida.

El otro round en el cual hubo algo distinto fue el noveno en el que Lontchi sufrió su segunda caída de la pelea, esta vez ante un gancho de izquierda directo al rostro.

"Todos los días se aprende algo nuevo, estas son las peleas que nos dan experiencia", dijo López tras el pleito. "Es un peleador difícil, complicado y lo demostró vino bien preparado, pero salimos muy bien".

Los totales de golpes según CompuBox también fueron testigos de una pelea muy favorable al boricua.

López tiró 592 golpes y pegó 244 (41%), al tiempo que Lontchi disparó 271 y atinó 84 (31%).

"(Lontchi) entraba todo el tiempo con la cabeza, estaba todo el tiempo moviéndose y eso me hizo más difícil la pelea", declaró 'Juanma'. "Y no boxeaba, lo que hacía era correr y era más incómodo ponerle los golpes".

AOL Latino tenía la pelea 89-80 hasta aquí con un solo round a favor de Lontchi, el cuarto.
