Miami, Flo., 19 junio 2009 (AOL Latino) - Shane Mosley pide casi a gritos un combate contra Manny Pacquiao. Y es que ante la aparente inminente firma de una pelea entre el filipino y Miguel Cotto, Mosley afirma que él es el rival que la gente realmente quiere ver.

Logramos conversar con "Sugar" para capturar directamente su sentir sobre toda esta situación, su perspectiva sobre la más reciente victoria de Cotto y sobre lo que realmente piensa de Floyd Mayweather Jr.

¿Cuál es la última información en cuanto a tu intento para pelear contra Manny Pacquiao?

"Bueno, he estado escuchando todo lo que ha estado hablando Bob Arum para que Pacquiao pelee con Cotto. Lo que yo digo es por qué va a pelear con Cotto, que es el peso welter número dos o número tres, cuando podrías pelear con el número uno. Creo que esto es todo para que Top Rank coja todos los recaudos de taquilla y demás, y no es una pelea para los fanáticos.

Cotto es un buen boxeador, le ganó a Clottey, aunque no sé si de verdad le ganó, fue una pelea muy reñida. Todavía tienen que arreglar eso, tienen que arreglar lo que pasó con Margarito, que le ganó. Tienen que ver si de verdad fue el yeso ese que supuestamente tenía. Tienen que ver si de verdad por eso fue que perdió.

Porque hay muchas cosas. No todo es lo que parece. Hasta en su pelea conmigo, los dos conectamos el mismo número de golpes, él conectó más jabs pero yo le di más golpes de poder (power punches). Así que eso estuvo medio sospechoso. ¿Así que por qué le dan a Cotto le oportunidad de pelear con Pacquiao antes de a mí?"

¿Cuánto ha sido el esfuerzo de Golden Boy Promotions para conseguirte esta pelea?

"Bueno, están trabajando bastante con eso. Estuve hablando con todos hace unos momentos. Sólo tenemos que hacer que los medios, HBO, todo el mundo nos apoye. Los fans la quieren. En las Filipinas, pregúntales qué pelea quieren para Pacquiao, si Mosley o Cotto. Pregúntale a cualquiera, haz la encuesta, ¿cuál prefieren ver? Pacquiao va a ganar más dinero contra mí que contra Cotto".

¿Cuánto tiempo estás dispuesto a esperar por una decisión de Pacquiao?

"No, no hay un plazo definido. Pacquiao va a hacer lo correcto. Va a decir que quiere pelear con el mejor. Va a afectar su legado si no me pelea. Se supone que pelee con los mejores, con los mejores en su división, para ser considerado el mejor libra por libra. Eso es lo que quieren ver en las Filipinas. Es lo que quieren ver alrededor del mundo. Pero depende de Pacquiao. Yo sólo estoy tratando de hacer la mejor pelea. Pacquiao o Mayweather, cualquiera de los dos".

Mosley sigue tras Pacquiao

Recordamos que cuando peleaste con Cotto, le dijiste a los entrevistadores de HBO tras la pelea que pensaste que te había ganado bien. Pero ahora dices que piensas que tú realmente le ganaste. ¿Crees que una revancha sea necesaria entre ustedes?

"Bueno yo creo que Cotto tiene que hacer la revancha con Margarito, para que arreglen su cosa. Yo pienso que le gané a Cotto pero eso se podría dejar para después que yo pelee con Pacquiao y Mayweather. Esas son las peleas que me merezco. Yo me gané esa posición cuando le gané a Margarito, quien era el peso welter número uno".

De no conseguir una pelea con Pacquiao, ¿te atrae hacer como Bernard Hopkins? Peleó contra un joven campeón en Kelly Pavlik y le ganó. ¿Te ves haciendo eso contra un Andre Berto, un joven campeón? Tú tienes una correa welter, él tiene una correa welter...

"Yo no me veo peleando con nadie que no sea Pacquiao o Mayweather. No me veo peleando contra Andre Berto. No me veo peleando contra Paul Williams. No me veo peleando contra Joshua Clottey, que escuché a Bob Arum diciendo que tiene sentido hacer una pelea con Joshua Clottey. ¡Eso es un 'no' rotundo! Cotto y Clottey pueden hacer su revancha para ver cuál es el mejor, porque yo creo que en realidad Clottey ganó esa pelea. Hay muchas cosas que Cotto tiene que hacer antes de meterse en una mega pelea como esta contra Pacquiao. Primero tiene que ver qué pasó con Margarito. Necesita ver qué pasó con Clottey. Tiene que sanar de la cortadura que tiene. Hay muchas cosas que tiene que hacer antes de decir 'oh, me voy a meter en esta pelea con Pacquiao'. Eso no tiene sentido".

¿Qué tú crees pasó con [la lesión de Mayweather]? ¿Crees que esa pelea no estaba vendiendo?

"Yo creo que no estaba vendiendo. No han dicho nada porque Mayweather no vende. El tipo habla tanto de que es una mega estrella, que es el rey del dinero en el boxeo y que sus Pay Per View venden. Pero es mentira. Todo es mentira.

Así que la cambiaron para el 19 de septiembre, Día de la Independencia mexicana, para que los mexicanos vayan a apoyar. Así [Juan Manuel] Márquez puede vender la pelea, porque Mayweather no la puede vender por sí solo. Necesita a Oscar [De La Hoya], necesita gente como yo, necesita a [Ricky] Hatton, necesita a Pacquiao. Necesita gente que de verdad mueve taquillas para vender peleas grandes".

¿Te preocupa estar fuera del ring tanto tiempo?

"No, yo sigo entrenando. En el pasado he estado fuera un año y regresé hasta mejor. Así que lo más que me hagan esperar, más me enojo, mejor subiré al ring. Tengo suficiente dinero como para estar entrenando por años. Porque amo el boxeo, así que yo puedo esperar hasta que vengan las peleas correctas. Porque yo he hecho grandes peleas por años y no se me ha tomado en cuenta. Pues ya estoy cansado de que no se me tome en cuenta".
