    Arrebata España el 3er lugar a Sudáfrica

    RUSTENBURGO, Sudáfrica (AP) - España se quedó con el tercer lugar de la Copa Confederaciones tras imponerse el domingo 3-2 ante Sudáfrica gracias un gol de tiro libre de Xabi Alonso en el tiempo extra.

    Favorita al título, el campeón de Europa a duras penas pudo superar a un conjunto anfitrión que estuvo a escasos minutos de llevarse la victoria

    En un desenlace dramático, un doblete de Daniel Güiza a las a los 88 y 89 minutos volteó el marcador tras el gol de Katlego Mphela a los 73. Todo parecía definido, pero el propio Mphela clavó un tiro libre en el tercer minuto de la prolongación.

    Alonso logró finalmente asegurar la presencia en el podio del torneo al marcar su tiro libre a los 107 minutos, un remate al segundo palo.

    España venía de sucumbir 2-0 ante Estados Unidos en las semifinales, su primer revés en 35 partidos. La derrota también le costó el fin de una racha récord de 15 triunfos.

    Liberados del peso que cargaban, después de haber conseguido por lo menos el pase a las semifinales, Sudáfrica jugó con un despliegue de soltura que entusiasmo a los 31.788 aficionados que acudieron al estadio Royal Bafokeng de Rustenburgo.
