14 de agosto 2009 (AOL Latino/Servicios combinados) - Rafael Márquez dijo en entrevista con ESPN Deportes que el Mundial de Sudáfrica probablemente marcará su retiro de la selección mexicana.

"Me siento comprometido para hacer historia, llegar más lejos de lo que hemos llegado", dijo el defensa del Barcelona.

En otra entrevista, Márquez confío en poder mantener un alto nivel de juego los próximos tres años. No descartó ponerse a la disposición de la selección en el 2016 si todavía se encuentra en buenas condiciones de juego, mental y físicamente.

Márquez dijo estar contento con la victoria del Tri sobre Estados Unidos, y dijo que la misma evidencia el trabajo de Javier Aguirre y la confianza del equipo.

"Javier está haciendo un gran trabajo, creo que este triunfo da la tranquilidad para enfrentarnos a las otras cuatro finales que nos quedan para buscar el boleto que nos de la participación en el Mundial", indicó.

Márquez espera que podrá estar recuperado de la lesión que le impidió jugar ante EE.UU. y estar listo para ser parte de la alineación contra Costa Rica el 5 de septiembre.
